Biography

BSc (Physiotherapy), Advanced Diploma Sports Physiotherapy, SPT 1 Senior Physiotherapist – Lions Rugby Company Preven Appalsamy is a highly experienced sports physiotherapist with nearly three decades of clinical and elite sporting experience. He qualified with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1996, laying the foundation for a career focused on sports injury management and high-performance rehabilitation. In 1998, Preven established his first physiotherapy practice in Killarney and at St John’s College, before relocating the practice to the NHC Health Centre in Northcliff in 2003. His commitment to accessible, high-quality care led to the opening of a second practice at the NHC Health Centre in Honeydew in 2008. Preven has continually advanced his expertise through postgraduate education, completing an Advanced Diploma in Sports Physiotherapy in 2005 at WITS and later achieving Sports Physiotherapy Level 1 (SPT 1) certification in 2008. These qualifications underpin his evidence-based approach to treating complex sports and orthopaedic injuries. He has extensive experience working with elite athletes, particularly in rugby union. Preven was contracted to the Golden Lions Rugby Union for 12 years, during which he worked across multiple levels—from Craven Week teams through to the Vodacom Cup squad. His role involved injury prevention, acute injury management, and long-term rehabilitation in high-performance environments. Additional elite and international experience includes working with the World XV Rugby Team during their 2006 South African tour, as well as the African and European Legends Soccer Match. Preven has also been contracted by the University of Johannesburg to provide physiotherapy support to their athletes and has volunteered his services to support the Soweto Rugby Club, reflecting his long-standing commitment to community sport. With a strong reputation in sports physiotherapy, orthopaedic rehabilitation, and rugby injury management, Preven combines clinical excellence with real-world elite sporting experience—offering patients comprehensive, results-driven physiotherapy care at every level.
